Ein Kolben ist in der Regel mit \u00d6senanschl\u00fcssen an den beiden Enden ausgestattet, in die ein geeigneter Stift zum Anschlie\u00dfen des Kolbens \u00fcber ein spezielles System (in der Regel eine U-Gabel) an das zu steuernde mechanische Organ gesteckt wird (z. B. zur Steuerung der Auslegerbewegungen von Erdbewegungsbaggern).<\/p><p>Oft wird das System aus Kolben und Zylinder einfach als &#8222;Kolben&#8220; oder &#8222;Zylinder&#8220; bezeichnet, wodurch das gesamte System mit dem Namen eines Teils bezeichnet wird. Insbesondere handelt es sich um einen Hydraulikzylinder (oder Hydraulikkolben), wenn das Medium im Zylinder eine Fl\u00fcssigkeit ist (normalerweise Hydraulik\u00f6l), w\u00e4hrend es sich um einen Pneumatikzylinder (oder Pneumatikkolben) handelt wenn es sich bei der Fl\u00fcssigkeit im Zylinder um ein Gas (in der Regel Luft) handelt.
